D'Addrio Chromes are the smoothest flat wound elecric guitar stirngs you can find. They feel great under your fretting fingers and have ultra-low finger noise. Their sound is soft and mellow, when played easy; but they open up when you dig in. Thanks to their compund windings which include a nickel plated steel, polished flat winding beneath the outer stainless steel flat winding. This gives them a stronger magnetic signature, to drive your pickups harder than stainless steel could do alone.

XL Chromes are referred to as flat wound strings, without including the term "stainless steel" because they are more than just stainless steel. Compound winding allows the use of a carbon steel flat ribbon winding between the hex core and the outer stinless steel wrap. This gives them a stronger magnetic presence to your guitar's pickups, more mass, and a stronger tone than stainless steel wrap alone can provide. That's whay we call them just "flat wound" electric guitar strings.

D'Addario XL Chromes make hollow body guitars sound sweet and mellow.are great for Jazz, with thier smooth and well rounded tones that blend together so well. Chromes work just as well on semi-hollow and solid body guitars, giving them a full and slightly damped tone that works well for chrod melodies and comping.
